Firing Services

Have a home studio but need somewhere to fire your work? Want something custom like a slow-cool program or a luster fire? We got you! Bay Haven is pleased to offer firing services to our community in Alameda and beyond.

We have two electric kilns — a Skutt KM-818 (approx. 2.6 cubic feet) and a Bailey B-2927 (approx. 10 cubic feet). We can fire up to cone 6.

Current prices (April 2026) listed below. These are subject to change as we figure out our electricity bills!

Pricing

Low-fire

(cone 04 or lower — bisque, low-fire clay, luster)

• Small kiln: $80 (full kiln only)

• Large kiln:

  • $165 full kiln, about 10 cu. ft

  • $100 half kiln, about 5 cu. ft

Mid-fire

(cone 5-6)

• Small kiln: $100 (full kiln only)

• Large kiln:

  • $265 full kiln, about 10 cu. ft

  • $160 half kiln, about 5 cu. ft

Policies

• Email us to arrange a drop-off appointment. Firing fees are due at dropoff.

• Please either purchase clay from Bay Haven or provide us with proof of your clay body and temperature range.

• If your greenware isn't bone-dry, we reserve the right to let it dry out until it's safe to fire without explosions.

• Glaze at home, or use ours. If you glaze at home, please let us know what you're using so we can cookie your work if needed.

• If you'd like to use our dipping glazes, you can purchase a one-day glaze pass for $30. Email us for details.

• Work will be ready for pickup within 2 weeks, likely sooner.

• If you want your work stilted, we charge $1/piece. Please bring your own stilts.

• Work must be picked up within 30 days. If it's left beyond that, we may give it to members' children to smash. 😉
